What is a « Dual language programs »? [fr]

The dual language programs give students the opportunity to experience a complete linguistic and cultural immersion of both curricula. Most often, these programs are created by the school districts - within public schools placed under their jurisdiction.

The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs created in 2012 the label FrancEducation in order to recognize the excellence of certain dual language programs. This label is a proof of quality and gives students and faculty access to a variety of contents, training programs and other materials financed by the French State.

The creation of the French Dual language Fund in 2017 by the French President Emmanuel Macron has allowed to devote more than $1,5 million to 61 programs labelled within the United States.

In Florida alone, there are currently four schools that hold the label FrancEducation, allowing studies from 1st Grade to 12th Grade:
• Sunset Elementary School
• Coconut Grove Elementary School
• G.W. Carver Middle School
• International Studies Preparatory Academy

Committed to teaching the official curriculum of the state of Florida, these schools are referred to as ‘International Studies’ programs and are born from a partnership between the Consulate General of France in Miami and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. They apply particularly to families immersed in American culture and desirous to have their children be familiar with French culture, thereof preparing the future generation of Francophiles.

While additional institutions are striving to obtain the Label FrancEducation, such as Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, the Consulate General of France in Miami keeps working hand in hand with the local authorities on the development and reinforcement of these programs.
