SS Normandie, a beautiful symbol of the French-American friendship [fr]
On Monday, December 15, Joseph Kibitlewski offered to the Consulate General of France in Miami a scale model of the SS Normandie.
An imposing ship built in Saint-Nazaire, the SS Normandie was one of the jewels of the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique.
At sea since 1935, the SS Normandie is considered the largest and fastest ship, and will remain in history as the most powerful turbo power propulsion ship ever built. The propulsion of Normandy includes the latest technical innovations of the time.
As with all major units of the moment, it is a ship whose propulsion is provided by steam.
During World War II, the SS Normandie was seized by US authorities in New York and renamed USS Lafayette. In 1942, the ship that caught fire and is now immobilized on the Hudson River.
The Consul and members of the consulate received with pleasure the gift of Mr. Kibitlewski, a beautiful symbol of the relations of friendship and cooperation between France and the United States.
