French presence at Art Basel Miami Beach 2014 [fr]


Miami Beach welcomes its 13th annual Art Basel. Nearly 250,000 people interested in modern and contemporary art will visit the biggest art fair fo the American continent. Whether it is on the sandy beaches of Miami Beach, in the Wynwood art district or at museums and galleries across the city of Miami, an endless amount of cultural events take over the city by storm.

ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH represents over 250 world-leading galleries as well as numerous international collectors, museum directors and curators.

18 galleries from France will be represented : Galerie Chantal Crousel, GDM…, Galerie Karsten Greve Paris, Galerie Max Hetzler Paris, Galerie Perrotin, Mor Charpentier, Galerie Kamel Mennour, Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Galerie Frank Elbaz, Almine Rech Gallery, Tornabuoni Art, and the Galerie Jocelyn Wolff just to name a few. Furthermore, several works by renown French artists such as Gina Pane, with her homage to Malevich (New-Yorker gallery Broadway 1602), Niki de Saint Phalle and her sculptural works (Parisian gallery Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois), Marcel Storr’s paintings (New-Yorker Andrew Edlin’s Gallery), Julien Carreyn (Galerie Crèvecoeur), Etel Adnan (Galerie Lelong), David and Marcel Fleiss (Galerie 1900-2000), and Olivier Antoine (Art Concept) will be presented.

DESIGN MIAMI is the official partner of Art Basel, bringing together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture. Out of the 35 galleries included in Design Miami, eight are French design galleries: Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Galerie Jacques Lacoste, Galerie Kreo, Galerie Maria Wettergren, Galerie Pascal Cuisinier, Galerie Patrick Seguin, Jousse Entreprise, and LAFFANOUR -Galerie Downtown.

The fair also features a Design Satellite installation of a reproduction of Pierre Paulin produced in collaboration with the Maison Louis Vuitton.
This year’s edition highlights Peter Marino with the first Design Visionary Award for his renowned architectural works for Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, as well as Dior, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

Peter Marino’s work will also be celebrated at the Bass Museum of Art in One Way: Peter Marino, the exhibition about his personal art collection.
Within the fair, people will circulate around Patrick Parrish’s installation of a dining table, 4 stools, a closet cabinet and 2 life size steel figures,
inspired by the French philosopher Bruno Latour’s concept “life of things”.

UNTITLED art (Dec 3-7) will receive Christophe Boutin and Mélanie Scarciglia as curators of this year’s edition, who are the co-founders of onestar press (2000) and Three Star Books (2007).

UNTITLED 2014 will feature a solo show of works by the French artist Elvire Bonduelle (read about her) represented by the Galerie Laurent Mueller. French galleries onestar press, Galerie Laurent Godin, Galerie Richard and Zürcher will also be present.
