2014: Numerous meetings await you

Dear Fellow citizens,
Dear Friends,

If 2013 was a rich one for Franco-Floridian relationships, with notably, the creation of a French Caucus at the Congress in Tallahassee, inaugurated in April by French ambassador to the United States, Mr. Francois Delattre, the traveling of Florida Governor Rick Scott to France during the Paris International Air Show, in June and the visit, during “French Weeks Miami”, of French Minister Mrs. Hélène Conway-Mouret, 2014 invites us to many other meetings and gatherings.

Indeed, 2014 will be dedicated towards the celebration of the common history of our two countries, with the beginning of commemorations in France for the hundredth anniversary of World War I.

Likewise, the 70th anniversary of the D-Day will foster several events in France and Florida where many American veterans, who landed on Normandy’s beaches on D-Day, reside.

I would like to salute their courage and their actions, which led the liberation of France.

Started in 2012, festivities that celebrate the French presence in Florida will continue thanks to many events marking the 450th anniversary of the foundation of Fort Caroline.

2014 also promises to be one of great visibility for our companies, with notably the inauguration of the Port of Miami Tunnel created by Bouygues and the renovation of the Miami Design District in partnership with LVMH.

The 7th edition of “French Weeks Miami” already brightens our calendars for next fall with a program open to hosting discussions on economics through conferences, roundtables and fairs as well as the promotion of music, cinema and visual arts.

Of course, this new year will also be marked by a great number of cultural events, among which “Francia de fiesta” where people of all ages will get together for the celebration of music in Puerto- Rico, the "Miami Nice Jazz Festival" during “French Weeks Miami”, as well as the large presence of French galleries and artists during Art Basel.

My dear fellow citizens, 2014 will also be an electoral year, during which you will be called to elect your European Deputies and Consular Representatives on May 24th.

As I wish you all my warmest wishes for this new year, I invite you to participate in this numerous events, which nourish the excellent relations between this great region composing this Consulate’s district and France!
