Arts, Humanities and Gastronomy: winning work supported by France
During the February 1st ceremony, Gaël de Maisonneuve, Consul General, warmly thanked them for their contribution to the promotion of French language, culture and gastronomy.
Their professional and personal contributions were recognized:
- Mrs. Mireille Chancy Gonzales :
Mrs. Chancy Gonzales is very active in Miami area as a promoter of Haitian art and culture. She is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Miami Art Museum and co founder of the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance. Through the "France Florida Foundation for the Arts" (FFFA), she has developed different French cultural events in Florida. As Director of the French Heritage Language Program, she also helps young Haitians preserve their cultural and linguistic heritage. She received the Medal of Arts and Humanities for her many years as an Ambassador of French language and culture.
- Mrs. Silvia Karman Cubina :
At first, Mrs. Karman Cubina worked at the Cuban Museum of Arts and Culture in Miami before founding her own independent art gallery in Puerto Rico, the Silvia Karman Fine Art gallery.
Later, she embarked on the great project of promoting awareness of contemporary French artists by exhibiting their work at the Moore Space in the program "French Kissing in the USA", propelling the young artists internationally.
Silvia Karman Cubina is now Director of the Bass Museum of Arts in Miami Beach. As such, she participates annually in "French Week Miami" and works in close collaboration with the French-American Chamber of Commerce and the Consulate general of France in Miami.
For all these reasons, Silvia Karman Cubina was appointed Knight of the Order of Arts and Humanities, a mark of gratitude from France with regard to this exceptional woman.
- Mrs. Laura Quinlan
As Director of the Rhythm Foundation, Laura Quinlan has succeeded in bringing brilliant renowned French artists to Miami: Gotan Project, Babylon Circus, Yelle, Yann Tiersen and Manu Chao.
Indeed, the Rhythm Foundation, a non-profit organization, is the source of numerous festivals and concerts aimed at multicultural exchange.
Thus, it is in partnership with the Consulate General that the Rhythm Foundation initiated the "Festival of Music" in the city of Miami in 1997, an event that has had growing success over the years and has become an indispensable rendezvous for locals.
This remarkable journey justifies the recognition that France has bestowed on her by awarding her with the insignia of Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Humanities.
- Mr. Hubert Surville
Hubert Surville moved to the United States in 1990 to work in the wine and spirits industry. In 2006, he founded his own company, OWS, which imports French products to the United States.
Hubert Surville also advises French brands willing to open branches in the United States. "Surville Enterprise" helps them manage their interests on the American continent.
Keen on sharing his experience, he quickly became the Foreign Trade Advisor of France.
He is also very involved in "French Week Miami," organized by the French-American Chamber of Commerce of Miami.
For his commitment and dedication, Hubert Surville has already received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Agricultural Merit in 1997 - Chevalier- as well as the National Order Merit in 2000. It is therefore quite right that he was promoted to the rank of Officer in the Order of Agricultural Merit during this ceremony.
