Didier Mutel, artist and engraver, invited by the University of Miami

Didier Mutel, artist and writer, questions the different types of narrations and representations of engraving techniques. For twenty years he has experimented with different books and prints with both the most traditional and the most contemporary techniques in order to revisit literary texts and musical pieces...

In 1998, Didier Mutel created his first workshop for engraving. He presented his first editions from 1991 in Paris and then in 1994 in New York. In 1997, he received a «Grand Prix des métiers d’art de la ville de Paris », which was awarded to him in recognition for his outstanding artistic projects. From 1997 to 1999, he was an artist in residence in the Villa Médicis in Rome.

After his return from Italy, he relocated his atelier to the XIX arrondissement (district) of Paris, but soon joined with Pierre Lallier, a master artist from the historic «Atelier Georges Leblanc», la well-known art workshop located on Saint Georges Street in Paris. In 2008, the Leblanc workshop moved and Pierre Lallier then passed on part of the funds to Didier Mutel.

In 2010, the workshop was relocated to Le Jura, one of France’s eastern departments where historical masterpieces dating from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries are curently being showcased.

Didier Mutel is invited on September 20, 2012 by the University of Miami.
