The Francophonie celebrated on March 20th

JPEG The French Language and the values of solidarity and dialogues between cultures promoted by the francophonie, are celebrated all around the world on March the 20th.

We count 220 millions locutors on the five continents as well as 900 000 French teachers in the world. Of the Governments that are members of the Organisation International of the Francophonie, French is the offcial language, either by itself or coupled with other languages, in 32 States.

This “journée de la francophonie” finds a particular echo in Florida, where French is officially the third language, because of the important French, Haitian and Canadian communities. Our countries join their efforts to celebrate the francophonie during a week in schools, universities and cultural institutions of Florida.

Its the opportunity to present French and Francophones, cultural and educative events that will take place during this week.

France, 1987, Not rated, 128 min
Directed by Louis Malle. With Raphael Fetjo, Gaspard Manesse and Francine Racette.

A French boarding school run by priests seems to be a safe haven from World War II until a new student arrives. He becomes the roommate of the hightest ranked student in his class. Rivals at first, the roommates form a bond and share a secret.

“It really happened. That’s the point of Louis Malle’s tragic "Au Revoir Les Enfants" ("Goodbye, Children") and late in the movie, a tragic and true incident draws the tears. But Malle drums his stylistic fingers until that moment, content with vignettes that are minimally involving. (…) _ By many other directors’ standards, "Au Revoir" would be a major achievement. But Malle has reached higher. If he’d made his childhood movie earlier in his career — when he didn’t have the sense to be so dispassionate — it might have packed a meatier punch. Now it’s just a deftly aimed poke. “ Desson Howe, the Washington Post
