French business Roundtable with Governor Rick Scott in Miami
On the occasion of the World Trade Week in Miami and the annual Gala of the French American Chamber of Commerce, Governor of Florida Rick Scott met with the Consul general of France in Miami, the President of Invest in France Agency North America, the President of the French American Chamber of Commerce of Florida (FACC), the President of the Association of French Foreign Trade Advisors in Florida/Caribbean, the Honorary Consul of France in Tampa along with French business leaders on May 19th at the Sofitel Hotel.
Attendees highlighted the active participation of French companies in the economic development in Florida, the French business community being very involved in various sectors of the local economy for the past 25 years including tourism, shipping, distribution of luxury goods, industry and technology ranging from aerospace and aeronautics to energy.
For the last 25 years France has been a strong economic partner and according to US statistics, the country remains the sixth exporter in Florida with 2.5 billion dollars and the top exporter concerning aerospace and petroleum products. In the meantime, France is the 30th largest customer of the state of Florida.
Those French companies are innovative, they create jobs.
Various examples from Bouygues Civil Works Florida, a subsidiary of Bouygues Publics Travaux of France designing and building the tunnel and CGA-CGM, world leading container shipping group and Cristal Finance in Miami to Saft world leader in design and production of Lithium Ion battery cells/systems in Jacksonville demonstrate the contribution of the French business community through innovation and investment to the economic growth of Florida.
So that French companies or companies owned by French capital are among the largest employers in Florida with 18,000 jobs concerned.
35 000 French citizens are calling Florida home making France the third European country most represented in the Sunshine State and in 2010 more than 186 000 French nationals visited Miami.
France and Florida have been building bridges for decades: a lasting and nurturing partnership for people, companies and jobs.
