50 years of friendship between France and Germany, let’s celebrate!

France and Germany celebrate 50 years of friendship.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, also known as the Treaty of Friendship, a whole year of events awaits.
A lot are being organized on both sides of the Rhine from September 2012 until July 2013. In Florida and beyond, we will also celebrate the reconciliation of the two countries.
To do so, let us plan sporting events, drawing contests, friendly matches, conferences or music concerts. You are also encouraged to take photos and videos on the days of those events!

The Franco-German relationship, bedrock of the European construction, was marked by the visit of General de Gaulle to Germany (GDR) from the 4th to the 9th of September of 1962.

This historic visit was commemorated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande on September 22, 2012.

This encounter launched the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, which will be celebrated from September 2012 to July 2013.
Various events are being organized on both sides of the Rhine.

In Florida and the nearby islands, you could join this celebration.

Let us plan sporting events, drawing contests, friendly matches, conferences and/ or music concerts to celebrate the unprecendented success of the reconciliation of the two countries.

In Miami, thanks to the association of European students in the European Studies program of Miami- Florida European Union Center of Excellence at Florida International University (FIU), there are two films are already programmed:

• «How Much We Hated Each Other» a French- Austrian film tracing the origins of the European Union through the story of a young Franco-German couple.

  Thursday, Noember 8, 2012 at noon- Room GC 150- FIU

• «Good-Bye Lenin», A German film both funny and hard- hitting dealing with a mother in a coma and waking up in East Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

  Friday, November 9, 2012 at noon- Room GC 150- FIU
